While Highway’s distinct style has garnered attention and co-signs from around the country, one of the most interesting developments to arise during Monochrome season has been his friendship and partnership with fellow Seattle-native and internationally renowned visual artist, CHITO. Known around the world for his unique and instantly recongnizable graffiti style, CHITO’s handpainted one-of-one pieces are held in the highest regard across industries from high fashion to hip hop - having partnered with brands like Givenchy, Veilance, and Issey Miyake and his pieces worn by the likes of A$AP Rocky, Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert, Ian Connor and Drake.
After first meeting through mutuals in the Seattle music scene, closely tied to the city’s historic graffiti scene as one of the artform’s world capitals, Highway and CHITO bonded over their individualistic approaches and fringe star status in their respective lanes. After inviting Highway to feature alongside him as the two faces of Supreme’s SS23 Campaign with THEM Magazine, the pair looked for more ways to collaborate. Finding that his edgy conceptual style perfectly complimented Highway’s uniquely captivating sound and mysterious persona, CHITO threw his full support behind the Monochrome EP. In addition to lending his artistic vision and iconic character-based style to create the one-of-one portrait of Highway that serves as the cover, he also designed a very special Monochrome-themed limited apparel collection to accompany the project’s release. With their latest collaboration set to drop 5/25, it turns out this unlikely pair of rising Seattle-natives pushing the boundaries of their respective artforms couldn’t be a better match.
